I feel very strongly that Language comes First. I believe that every child can flourish under a productive, loving, safe and encouraging environment. I believe that most children will "talk it out" with you, over any type of punishment. I do Not like "Time Outs". I prefer to talk to the children and try to encourage them to make the best choices they can and to redirect them if needed. I believe that if a child is overwhelmed, they, just like adults, may need to take a personal minute to get away from the stresses of their environment, in order to collect themselves. This helps them to get away from whatever the situation maybe so they are able to calm themselves down and rejoin their peers in a calm manner, so they are ready to learn and play.
