In my in home daycare the goal is to have a well rounded child. It is my belief that play has a very important part in early learning. With that said, we do have a “school” program. We learn colors, shapes, numbers, the alphabet and have preschool level science and social studies. Learning to follow directions is a key skill. Some children go to school already knowing how to read but that is not something I push on them. The ones who are ready and wanting to learn will be encouraged. We also love our crafts. In my home, manners and respect for others is very important. We follow a schedule as far as meals, outside times, naps, etc. During free play time there is not usually a time limit on playing with a certain thing unless we have to move on to a scheduled activity. I love to start a chid as a newborn and keep until kindergarten. Right now I have an almost 3 year old that could sure lose a playmate, though!
