At Tall Trees Child Care, I strive to promote an environment that encourages friendship and respect for others, fosters new skills and interests, and connects children with nature. Most importantly, I want to provide children with a caring environment that promotes respect. Children are provided with helpful words to communicate and problem-solve with their peers (e.g. “May I please have a turn next?” “I disagree.” “I’m taking space.”). Friendships are also encouraged through a variety of positive activities including field trips, parties and group challenges. I believe children benefit from a rich environment of educational toys, household tools (e.g. a nutcracker, kitchen scale or squeegee) and books to maximize their learning. Children also need support and direction to master new skills. Thus, I balance time spent teaching new skills while also allowing space for children to attempt these skills on their own. My yard is designed wih pathways to encourage exploration and fitness. Even when it is cold out, the children may bundle up and go for a walk around the yard. In the summer, the children often prefer to be outside for most of their day.
